Maryland House, Senate Leaders, Baltimore Mayor Join MSL for Spring Semester Events

The Maryland Student Legislature is excited to announce the full slate of speakers for our spring events.

On February 20th at 12 pm, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott will deliver the keynote speech at the 2021 Winter Session. Mayor Scott will also engage with students in a Q&A session. During the event, Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones will address students via pre-recorded remarks. Students can register for this event here. The event is open to any student enrolled at an institution of higher education in Maryland.

On April 17th at 12 pm, Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson will deliver the keynote address at the 32nd Annual Session of the Maryland Student Legislature. After his remarks, Senate President Ferguson will engage with students in a Q&A session. Students can register for this event here. The event is open to any student enrolled at an institution of higher education in Maryland.

About Brandon Scott
At 36, Brandon Scott is the city’s youngest mayor in more than 100 years. A graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Mayor Scott previously served as President of the Baltimore City Council from 2019-20 and represented the 2nd Council District from 2011-19.

About Adrienne Jones
Speaker Adrienne A. Jones shattered two glass ceilings when she was unanimously elected by the full House of Delegates to serve as the first African-American and the first woman Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. Previously, she held the distinction of being the first African American woman to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore, serving in that capacity for 16 years. She has been a delegate since 1997.

About Bill Ferguson
Senator Bill Ferguson was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 2010 to represent Maryland’s 46th Legislative District in Baltimore. In January 2020, his colleagues unanimously elected him to serve as President of the Maryland Senate, making him the second-youngest Senate President in Maryland history.

Founded in 1989, the Maryland Student Legislature is an intercollegiate organization that prepares students for lives of public service through a model legislature, speaker series, networking events, and other activities. MSL student learn to write legislation, develop public speaking skills, and build a network of politically active young people from across the state.
