The Maryland Student Legislature mourns the passing of former Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the legions of staff members and colleagues who were fortunate enough to work alongside him.
Senator Miller loved his native Maryland and was a student of its history. One of the longest-serving leaders of any legislative body in our nation’s history, Senator Miller was also one of the Maryland Student Legislature’s earliest and strongest supporters. Through his advocacy and belief in our organization, MSL was first welcomed into the State House chambers. That is why each year, we recognize one of MSL’s rising stars with an award named in his honor.
This afternoon we lost a giant. Maryland will never have another Mike Miller, but his legacy will live on in those he mentored and whose lives he touched, and in his many contributions to our state’s civic life. We honor his legacy of service and express our condolences to his loved ones.
